a pretty bow

{Bow Tie Bolo Necklace, top (old): Free People; jacket: BB Dakota; jeans: 7 FAM (similar);
shoes: MICHAEL Michael Kors (found them here, or splurge here);
hat: Urban Outfitters; sunglasses: Prada}

It was our first time celebrating Thanksgiving in the States and I could not have asked for a better one.  Earlier in the week it got so cold I needed to throw on a coat (a coat! what happened to jacket weather? I felt like I was back in Canada!), but by Thanksgiving the weather was perfect.  We were having dinner at home, but I wanted to dress up a bit or at least feel like I dressed up for the occasion and this necklace was perfect for that.  It takes any outfit up a notch.  There's no end to what you can pair it with... pullover sweaters (see here), dresses... It will definitely be in heavy rotation for the holiday season.

black friday deals and simple #OOTD

{jacket: Free People (on sale); tee: Madewell (on sale + 25% off);
jeans: J Brand (take $25 off almost every $200 you spend);

Happy Black Friday!  I've been scoping out the deals for the past few days and taking notes because the sales can be overwhelming.  I don't want to go overboard and then not buy what I've been eyeing or actually need.  I have been wanting a new pair of flat boots and scored these Isabel Marant ones this morning (also love these).  I've been looking for a cozy black sweatshirt and scored this Wildfox one.  Next stop: ASOS where it's 30% off everything.  Of course, I'll be stopping at Free People where they have 50% off select styles (here).

Happy shopping!

soft stripes

We went to a tree lighting ceremony and this sweater was thin enough for walking around and shopping during the afternoon, but warm and cozy enough in the evening.  We even went for ice cream afterwards, which is not something I'm used to doing after a tree lighting ceremony back in Canada.  I'm definitely excited to celebrate my first American Thanksgiving and I hope everyone celebrating has a great one!

perfect pullover

{Free People Long Flight Pullover Sweater (other colours here); jeans: GAP (similar);

My in-laws are visiting us for the first time since we moved to Myrtle Beach so of course we took them to the beach first.  It's still perfect weather and you only need one layer (unless you wear a t-shirt).  I was looking for thin sweaters and these (I also bought this one in vanilla) are perfect.

wine & blush

{Free People Coco Cocoon Cardigan; sweater: Free People (love this one);

This cardigan felt a bit summery to me, until I paired it with this wine coloured sweater and black jeans.  I love the cocoon fit of the cardigan since I can layer it over another sweater.  It comes in a few other colours and I'm seriously considering buying all of them because I've quickly learned living in the South means peeling off layers because by the afternoon it's too warm for a bulky sweater, if a sweater is needed at all.

sweater dresses, socks and sunshine

{RISE Home Run Sweater Mini Dress; socks: Free People (similar here);
shoes: MICHAEL Michael Kors (found them here, or splurge here);

This dress is basically a big, cozy sweatshirt.  It's perfect to pair with sneakers to run some errands, or dressed up a little with wedge booties and over-the-knee socks.

fall kicks (or skids or slorps)

{Vans Classic Slip-Ons in Suede; jeans: 7 For All Mankind (bought last year, similar here and here}

Well, first of all, they’re not called "sneakers" anymore. Apparently, they’re called "kicks" or "skids" and I think I heard somebody say "slorps". - Chandler Bing, Friends

I have a few pairs of Vans and I have to stop myself from buying every colour, pattern, etc. that I come across, but when I saw these brown suede ones on the Madewell site there was no question I was going to buy them.  The colour is perfect for fall and will go great with the pieces I've been buying lately.  Plus, I needed a new pair of sneakers, sorry, kicks since it's starting to get a little too cold for sandals and now that I'm a stay-at-home mom, sneakers, darn it(!), kicks are a must-have.

denim dress & OTK boots

{dress: Topshop (bought last year, love thisthisthis and this one);
Stuart Weitzman The Lowland Boothat: Brixton; sunglasses: Prada}

A button front denim skirt is a big trend for fall (I have been eyeing this and this one), but I think a denim dress is a must-have, always, and much easier because it's one piece.  There are so many ways to style one.  You can wear it on its own and style it with basically any type of shoe or boot... sneakers, ankle boots...  My personal favourite for fall is the over-the-knee boot ('OTK'), with or without OTK socks.  When it gets cooler, I'll be pairing this dress with a long-sleeved tee underneath (most likely striped) (tip: roll up the sleeves if it's a long-sleeved dress) or plaid shirt and/or a cardigan, a pullover so that the dress looks like a skirt, tights and/or a jacket...
Stay tuned!

Ok, so it was in the high 20s the past couple of days, but I saw these beautiful leaves on the ground and desperately wanted to bring out these boots.

p.s. Our camera is currently broken so these pictures are taken with an iPhone.

victorian fall

I last styled this dress very simply by pairing it with some platform sandals (see here).  The dress alone is so pretty I wanted it to be the focus.  This time I wanted to add some fall touches, even though it's still fairly warm in the South.  So I paired it with the denim vest I've been living in and some fringe sandals that give that bootie vibe.  Of course I topped the outfit off with one of my go-to fall hats.  When the temp really drops, I'm excited to pair this dress with actual booties and a cardigan sweater.
