polka dots & leopard print

{top: Maison Scotch (in-store, love this floral one); sweater: Urban Outfitters (sold out online);
jeans: GAP; hat: Club Monaco; sunglasses: Prada}

Just a quick post of the outfit I'm wearing today that I posted on Instagram.  Who What Wear is having a 30-Day Wardrobe Challenge and it reminded me the other day that I wanted to mix and match this polka dot top and leopard print sweater.  (I kind of lost track of the days, but I've definitely been taking some tips.  Check it out if you're having a hard time putting outfits together! #wwwstylechallenge)

neverending sweater weather and two-tone pants

{sweater: Central Park West (sold out, love this yellow version; similar here and here);
hat: BCBG (in-store, obsessed with this one); jeans: Joe's Jeans (coated version);
boots: MICHAEL Michael Kors; sunglasses: Prada}

It has been freezing this week.  Back down to -25 with the windchill.  It's tricky shopping around this time of year because the stores are bringing out their spring stuff, but also extremely discounting their winter stuff.  Not knowing the weather was drastically going in the opposite direction of spring, but I was eyeing these tweed jeans for a while and totally forgot about them, then saw them again and they were 65% off - score!  With the weather this week, I'm really glad I bought them because, as I mentioned before, my closet is lacking in the pants department.  Plus, they're amazing.  They are super duper comfortable and dressy enough for work (on non-'Casual Friday' days).  And clearly I have a thing for two-tone pants (see here and, most recently, here - I'm still contemplating buying these black and white ones.)

pink passion

{Guess Plasmas Pointed-Toe Pumps; nail polish: OPI in 'Passion'}

I was looking for a light pink nail polish because I'm obsessing over pastels (again) for spring and found this one at a hair salon while my son was getting his hair cut.  They had about 8 different light pinks but I settled on 'Passion'.  Shortly after, I walked into Guess and saw matching pumps on display, which I felt was a sign that I should buy them.  (They're so comfortable and the price is so good that I bought them in black as well.  Currently if you spend $125, you get $25 off!)  They looked great with the jeans I was wearing, but I'm also excited to mix them with other pastels as well.  Now if only spring would just get here already.

denim on polka dot denim

shirt: Madewell (similar); hat: Club Monaco; sunglasses: Prada}

Just a quick post of the outfit I posted on Instagram today.  I love wearing denim on denim.  It's a simple outfit to put together.  The rule used to be that one piece should be darker (or lighter) than the other, but I think anything just about goes now.

sunshine & snowflakes

hat: Juicy Couture (in-store, sold out online); bracelet: BCBG (similar); sunglasses: Prada}

I'm really into yellow right now, which is not a colour I thought I would be obsessing over.  It's not an easy colour to wear, but if you can pull it off, it sure brightens up a gloomy day!  One way of breaking up the yellow if it's too harsh against your skin is by, for example, wearing a blouse underneath this sweater.  I find wearing difficult colours easiest by wearing them on the bottom i.e., a skirt (see here), or pair of pants.  (I just ordered these Zara ones.  I'm also contemplating getting this Zara coat.  I tried this one on too, but unfortunately it doesn't come in XS so it was too overwhelming on me.)  Another easy way of bringing the colour into your wardrobe is a pair of shoes (obsessing over this Valentino Rockstud Leather Simple Pump and these Maison Martin Margiela Cutout d'Orsay Heels), or a handbag (love this Milly Rich Jacquard Shoulder Bag).  Yellow looks great with other bright colours or neutrals for a more toned-down look.  I decided to mix it up with some wine colours.

schoolgirl

{sweatshirt: Zoe Karssen; blouse: Madewell; skirt: Free People (sold out, obsessed with this skirt);
boots: MICHAEL Michael Kors; hat: Guess (old); sunglasses: Prada}

Anytime I wear a plaid skirt of any kind, it reminds me of high school.  We had to wear a uniform, which included a green kilt.  I remember there were rules on how short the kilt could be but, of course, all the girls would fold their kilts to make them shorter.  But we wore shorts underneath.  Well, most of us.  I still have my kilt actually and even wore it for Halloween one time.  (No, not as the “slutty schoolgirl”, just a regular schoolgirl.)  I’ve been seeing this Crème de la Crème sweatshirt again in the blogosphere (it’s back in stock!) and seeing it paired with full skirts, which I love.  (I had previously paired it with this plaid Topshop dress - see here.)  Unfortunately, I had to swap out the sweatshirt for a plain black sweater to make it work appropriate.  But it's fun to play dress up.  I might even see if I still fit into my old kilt.

Other plaid skirts I love:

Coach Black and White Plaid Slouchy Wrap Skirt
Karl Lagerfeld Veronica Tartan Wool Mini Skirt

faux / faux

tee: Mendocino; hat: Urban Outfitters; necklace: Juicy Couture (old); sunglasses: Prada}

Just a quick post of what I wore yesterday: a double dose of faux.  Faux fur and faux leather leggings.  (Well, technically it's a triple faux outfit because the sleeves on this tee are faux leather, which makes this tee amazing.  Unfortunately it was way too cold to take pictures without a coat on to show them off.)  I am obsessed with this MinkPink coat.  It is so cozy that I might start wearing it around the house since I don't own a robe.  It is seriously that cozy.  I love the two-tone look.  I had a hard time deciding between a black and cream faux fur coat, so when I came across this one my decision was made for me.  I think everyone should own something this fun and for the price, you can't go wrong adding this to your wardrobe.

red & pink & hearts

boots: Marc by Marc Jacobs; necklace: Coach (gift, old); sunglasses: Prada}

I love mixing red and pink together and what better day to do it than on Valentine's Day.  I'm also wearing my favourite Valentine's Day gift my husband bought me years ago - this adorable Coach necklace that remains my favourite necklace.  Other than looking like a walking Valentine, I plan on sitting on my couch and eating chips tonight.  My idea of the perfect night.

Hope everyone has a happy Valentine's Day! xo

details

necklace: Coach (gift, old); bracelet: J.Crew (similar); Glamour Magazine}

I said earlier that I'm not someone who cares to celebrate Valentine's Day (forced dinner reservations, mandatory flowers...), but I am excited to dress for the occasion, of course.  Red = check!  Pink = check!  Hearts = check!  (My husband bought me this Coach necklace for Valentine's Day years ago and it remains my favourite necklace.)  I love mixing pink and red together (inspired by SJP's outfit she wore to David Letterman), which is what I plan on doing tomorrow, so it only makes sense that my accessories match.

pink & frilly

{skirt: ZARA; sweater: GAP (similar); cardigan: French Connection; hat: Guess (old);

I love dressing down, but I'm a girly-girl at heart so when I saw this frilly pink skirt at Zara, it was love at first sight.  I started daydreaming of wearing it with white and some neutral (or pink!) sandals, or mixing it with other pastels, but I do love it paired with black.  I also love mixing pinks together and since I'm not able to wear sandals quite yet, I added this bright pink French Connection sweater for a pop of colour.  The skirt is faux leather, which makes it wearable now (with tights) and of course the pastel pink makes it a perfect piece to transition into spring... which feels like it's never going to get here.

hearts

{sweater: Urban Outfitters (sold out online, love this Equipment one and this Chinti and Parker one);
jeans: GAP; nails: Essie 'Chinchilly'; cookie: Starbucks}

I'm not big on Valentine's Day, never really was.  My husband bought me roses for our first Valentine's Day together when we first started dating in college and after I found out how much he spent, I told him never to do it again.  (Don't get me wrong, I loved getting them!)  I do, however, love chocolates and sweets so any reason to eat them, I'm all for it.  (I couldn't resist this cookie!)  I'm also on board for wearing anything pink, red, or with hearts on it.  But I don't need a special occasion for that.

two-tone / printed pants

{top: Mango (old); pants: MICHAEL Michael Kors; ASOS Popper Skater Coat;
sunglasses: Prada; shoes: Nine West (old)}

I rarely buy pants because I'm petite and I'm too lazy to hem them.  Plus, all the money I would spend on hemming, I could buy more clothes!  (I love that GAP has petite sizes and buy most of my pants there.  But my size sells out pretty quick.)  It became so cold last month that I knew I needed to invest in a couple more pairs.  When I walked into Michael Kors, I instantly saw these pants hanging at the back of the store and I'm pretty sure I ran to them so that nobody would steal the last size (they probably had more pairs in my size but I did not want to take any chances).  I tried them on and fell in love.  (Thankfully they're straight pants so I can tuck them under, which is great because I can tuck them according to the shoe I wear.)  I LOVE the print, but am obsessed with the fact that they're two-tone.  (I'm also obsessing over these black and white ones.)  I thought about pairing these pants with some colour but found this navy top in my closet and thought it was a perfect fit.  I added a pop of colour with this amazing ASOS coat (last seen here), which is now only $60!  I think I might have to pick it up in the navy or black.  Or both.

all black everything

{top: ASOS; skirt: Wilfred Free (sold out online, similar); beanie: Local Heroes; sunglasses: Prada}

Just a quick post of today's outfit that I posted on Instagram.  I've said many times that I love colour and I rarely do all black, however, on occasion I'll make an exception.  I loved the idea of mixing a velvet top with my favourite wear-with-anything faux leather skirt from Aritzia.  The textures of both items make the outfit anything but boring, which is why I made the exception.
