tweed

{jacket: Dolce Vita (also here and here); turtleneck: H&M; pants: GAP; necklace: Dior (vintage);
boots: MICHAEL Michael Kors (in-store); sunglasses: Prada}

Well, I just basically ordered this jacket and it's already almost too cold to wear it.  Thankfully it's a little milder today.  I swear I was not having to even wear tights only a couple of weeks ago.  (Clearly some people are not moving on from summer because yesterday I saw a woman on the train with open-toed sandals!)  But I called it, it would feel like winter soon and, sure enough, I was right.

I'm already starting to look at winter coats, even though I have barely worn the 3 fall jackets that I purchased this fall.  I have so many jackets, I'm obsessed with jackets, but I find there's never that in-between weather where I get to wear them for more than a week or so.  I think I need to stop buying them because I just get disappointed.  Or I freeze.  I am excited to buy winter coats, even though I HATE winter.  I repeat, I HATE winter.

fit-and-flare lace

{Wilfred Tartine Dress (other versions, this one in-store via Aritzia); sunglasses: Prada;
necklace: Juicy Couture; booties: MICHAEL Michael Kors}

I bought this amazing dress from Aritzia back in August or September and have been waiting to wear it, but September and October have been fairly mild.  I like wearing layers in the fall so I can easily remove a layer if I get too warm.  As I’ve said before, fall in Canada goes from cool (with warm afternoons) to freezing (all day) in a matter of a few weeks.  (I was able to wear thick sweaters and now think I have to upgrade to a winter coat, bypassing the 3 fall jackets I purchased.)  I fell in love with this dress because the lace skirt makes it so unique and I love the way the lace creeps up the sides, making it even more unique.  (Bonus, it has pockets!)  When I took these pictures originally, it was still mild out.  Today, I traded the bare legs and wedges (which I paired with this dress to dress it down for work, rather than wearing heels) with tights and flats.  It's no longer fall.

embellished

{Line & Dot Prairie Embellished Sweater (also here); jeans: Guess by Marciano; ring: H&M (in-store);
sunglasses: Prada; boots: Dolce Vita (old, love these); hat: Juicy Couture (similar, also love this one)}

Well it's a good thing I stocked up on sweaters since it felt like winter today!  I am dreading winter.  I hate being cold, but I also hate sweating and that's what happens to me in the winter.  I bundle up so I'm warm outside, but then I get inside, rush to work and by the time I drink my first cup of tea, I'm sweating.  It's all about layering, but sometimes you just want to throw on a cozy sweater.  Especially when they're this beautiful.  I fell instantly in love with this Line & Dot sweater.  The details are amazing - the crochet lace front yoke, the rhinestones, the pom pom balls (I especially love them coming down the arms).  It's probably the most beautiful sweater I have ever seen.  I felt like a snowflake.  A sweating snowflake at times, but a snowflake nonetheless.  (It was partly my fault because I think I jumped the gun on wearing a winter coat today.)

Speaking of snowflakes, I came across another beautiful Line & Dot piece - this amazing faux fur jacket.  Amazing!

oversized

boots: MICHAEL Michael Kors (in-store, similar); necklace: Mendocino (in-store)}

I mentioned here that I was all over cozy sweaters for fall, but the weather has been fairly mild.  Now that it's starting to get chillier, I thought it was time to get down to business.  Although I was on the hunt for the perfect black cable knit sweater (with or without a turtleneck), I wanted to find something special, like a really bright sweater.  When I couldn't find what I was looking for, I went to REVOLVEclothing.com, which is where you could pretty much find anything you're looking for and at various price points.  I found 3 sweaters in less than half an hour that I fell in love with.  This Textile Elizabeth and James plaid sweatshirt, a beautifully embellished white sweater that I will be wearing later this week, and the amazing cobalt oversized sweater pictured above.  Cobalt is such a pretty colour to wear, especially with dark hair.  I paired the sweater with these great black GAP jeans so that the colour would stand out even more.

The other reason why I was looking for sweaters with a special touch is because we are raising money for United Way this week and are able to wear jeans to work with a donation.  And since I need to wear simple, appropriate jeans to work, I thought I would make my sweaters the focus of my outfits.

perfect sweatshirt

Who doesn't love a good sweatshirt?  They're comfy to wear.  But these days the sweatshirts out there are not your typical sweatshirts.  Sure, you could throw on leggings or boyfriend jeans and your look will be casual, but with sweatshirts these days you'll still look chic, not sloppy.  Perfect example above.  It's called the "perfect sweatshirt" for a reason.  But I paired mine with leatherette leggings (these AG ones are amazing - SO comfortable!) and over-the-knee boots for a little bit more than a casual look.  It's a sweatshirt that's very versatile and it's one that I'll be living in this fall.  So much so that I'm thinking of getting the camo version.

tuxedo shirt

{shirt: Elizabeth and James (b&w version, obsessed with this DVF one); pants: GAP
shoes: Marc by Marc Jacobs (love these mouse flats); sunglasses: Prada; bracelet: Coach (old)}

I remember seeing the black and white version (link above) of this Elizabeth and James tuxedo shirt on How I Met Your Mother and I can't recall if I specifically looked for it after seeing the shirt on that show, or if I came across it on my own, but I remember having a hard time deciding on that colour (because of seeing it on Robin), or the one I chose.  I'm a little obsessed with nude/blush tones (see this skirt and this blouse) so I went with the nude one.  Plus, around that time, I picked up another tuxedo shirt from Madewell that is cream and black (which I have yet to wear).  You would think 1 tuxedo shirt, definitely 2, would be enough, but then you come across one from Diane von Furstenberg (link above) and it's hard to stop yourself from buying it.

cozy knits & gold chains

boots: Sam Edelman; necklace: via Mendocino (similar here); bracelets: H&M; sunglasses: Prada}

This is how I love my fall.  When it's just cold enough that you can wear a cozy sweater, but warm enough that you can wear a skirt with boots, without tights.  I don't mind wearing a jacket, or tights (only because I like the look of them, not the feel of them) - both of which I had to throw on today because it was freezing this morning - but that's as cold as I would like it to get.  The afternoons have been beautiful though and I'll take what I can get because I'll probably be needing a thick coat, touque and gloves in a couple of weeks.

plaid & floral

{blouse: Zara; Paige Verdugo Plaid Skinny Jeans (sold out, love these); sunglasses: Prada;
booties: MICHAEL Michael Kors; bracelets: H&M (in-store)}

This is my third time wearing these Paige Denim plaid jeans (see them here paired with a little leather and here paired with denim).  This time, I thought I would be a little adventurous and paired them with something floral, which I've been seeing everywhere.  I thought I would ease into the trend with this beautiful floral blouse I bought from Zara back in July because the print is not too overwhelming.  The blouse also makes the outfit more appropriate for work.  I added a black sweater because, again, I'm always freezing at work and it tones down the look even more.  It's definitely a combination I'm surprised works so well.

Love these tips from the Free People blog on how to mix plaid & floral.

leopard is the new neutral

Leopard print is now considered a neutral and being paired with almost anything.  Normally I would pair these flats with a solid top and let them stand out, but I thought I would try the "trend" and not only paired them with stripes, but a little bit of floral.

{Anthropologie Fleur Trimmed Henley; jeans: Guess by Marciano (old, similar);
GAP Animal Print Ballet Flats; sweater: James Perse (old, never worn!); bracelets: H&M}

I've always loved leopard print.  When it's a "trend", I think, "But isn't it always?"  I still have my first ever leopard print pumps (with pink trim!) that I bought from Aldo years and years ago.  (I also bought the matching bag, seen here).  I would love to wear them, but I just don't do 4"+ heels anymore.  Unless it's for a wedding or something.  So I've been searching for a pair of leopard print flats for a while, but couldn't settle on a pair until I saw these.  I love the fact that they're a mix between a leopard print and, my other favourite print, polka dots.  They're super comfortable and, for the price, they're a steal!
